Surrounded by the Pirin, Rila and the Rhodope mountains, Bansko is a climatic mountain resort with a short hot summer and long mild winter. The average temperature during January, the coldest month, is -1.9�C. Snow falls are abundant, providing a constant winter snow cover up to 2 m thick. The skiing season along the Pirin slopes starts in the middle of December and ends in mid-April.
The skiing conditions in Bansko are excellent. The Pirin mountains have a predominantly Alpine charachter with three peaks around 2900 m. However the slopes offer runs and tracks for all types of skiers, from novice to experts, while the ski runs are maintained in excellent condition. The range of skiing is 14 km of ski runs with 7 lifts with the longest ski run of 2.5 km. Experienced skiers will particularly enjoy the excellent opportunity to maximize skiing practices while beginners slopes will make first ski lessons easy and enjoyable.
Bansko combines great skiing, beautiful nature and historical significance. The town itself attracts visitors with its 120 cultural monuments, its museum houses, the permanent ethnographic exhibition and the Bansko schlool of icon painting exhibition.
Apres Ski
Apr�s-ski revolves around the one hundered local tavernas (mehanas) which offer excellent local cusine as well as traditional live music and dance. One of the amazing things about Bansko is how the old sites alongside the new. The 'Mehana' offer a wide range of local dishes at cheap prices - main dishes are often around �5.00 if not cheaper! Then there are up to the minute newly built hotels and bars to rival those in the better known European resorts - but the prices are low.
Ski lifts working hours & ski guides
The well-maintained lift system works from 9:30 a.m. till 4:30 each day. Ski guide service is available for intermediate and advanced skiers for off-piste skiing. Full day guiding service is also available to snowboarders.
Ski runs
Beginners
Beginners will enjoy great teaching and some good pistes - but these are a little limited. Ideal for low intermediates with a couple of weeks skiing experience though - plenty of blue runs to develop your technique on. Good English speaking ski school will help you quickly get to grips with the basics.
Intermediates
The ski area is definately a paradise for the intermediate skier. The picturesque runs are well maintained and many of the descents are wide and tree-lined. The excellent ski school will help you to improve carving skills and grow your confidence.
Advanced
The resort is limited for the keen advanced skier, however, if you are looking to improve your technique then the ski school offers excellent tuition at a reasonable price.
Snowboarding
Some good boarding can be found in Bansko, particularly with the long tree-lined runs which will keep even the keenest of boarders occupied.
