Bulgaria in figures:

Territory: - 110 000 km2.
Population: - more than 8 million people.
Capital: - Sofia - more than 1 million inhabitants.

Bulgaria's Black Sea coastline spanning 378 km is varied and exciting with many beautiful beaches. The beaches of Varna, St Constantine, St Helen and Golden Sands are covered with fine crystal-clear sand. Sunny Beach and Nessebar(a world heritage site)have sands that are golden in colour and Bourgas beach is covered with dark coloured sand due to presence of magnetite. The beaches of Albena, Kamchiya and those south of Bourgas are equally golden and impressive.
With no tidal movements of any force, the Black Sea is ideally suitable for the swimmer. Swimmers must strike out at least 100m from the shore to reach really deep waters. The Black Sea has a beautiful translucence - 10 to 15 meters and up to 30 meters in high sea. It appears green - bluish away from the shore and its water salinity is 18 per thousand i.e. perfect conditions.
During July and August there is enough sunshine to bask for up to eleven hours with none of the permanent cold Baltic- type winds or scorching heat of Riviera. There are no extremes of temperature with average air temperature in summer at a pleasant 28 - 30C and sea temperature a moderate 24 - 26C.
A glance at the map of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast will confirm how much has already been achieved to secure Bulgaria's place as a top quality tourist destination. It has brought and continues to bring delight to an ever increasing number of visitors from Ireland.
